Policy & Research
One of the most emotive and contentious issues in Wales is that of the Welsh language. Although it has been a subject for debate for many years, we feel the consumer voice has long been missing from discussions. This year will see the Welsh Assembly pass legislation on the future of Welsh language policy through the Welsh Language (Measure) Wales. In order to help inform policy makers on the views of Welsh speaking consumers we gave written and oral evidence to the National Assembly for Wales in which we are calling for the Measure to;
- make more provision for consultation and dialogue with the public
- ensure greater clarity and consistency for service users
- address issues that are of concern to Welsh speakers, including confidence to use the language
- put in place more robust monitoring and evaluation processes
Welsh Language Scheme
This scheme was developed by Consumer Focus to give full effect to the principle of equality to consumers and to offer real language choice as we provide services to the public in Wales.
This has been done in accordance with Section 14 (1) of the Welsh Language Act 1993. Our scheme was developed in consultation with and in preparation for approval by the Welsh Language Board.
