Fuel Poverty
Consumer Focus Wales is a founder member of the Wales Fuel Poverty Coalition.
Both the UK Government and the Welsh Assembly Government have a legal duty under the Warm Homes and Energy Conservation Act (2000) to do everything reasonably practicable to eliminate fuel poverty.
In Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government has developed legally binding targets; to tackle fuel poverty amongst vulnerable households by 2010, in all social housing by 2012 and for everyone by 2018. The Welsh Assembly Government has admitted that because of energy price increases in recent years that meeting the targets will be a severe challenge.
In July 2010 the Welsh Assembly Government published a new Fuel Poverty Strategy. Together with Fuel Poverty Coalition we will monitor the implementation of this plan to ensure that as many people as possible are supported out of fuel poverty.
