Royal Mail fails to deliver first class target

Published 30 August 2011

Royal Mail failed to hit its first class stamped and metered delivery targets in half of postcodes in Wales during the first quarter of the year latest figures show.

Llandrindod Wells (LD) 88.7 per cent, Newport (NP) 88.9 per cent, North Wales (LL) 89.7 per cent, and Chester & Deeside (CH) 90.8 percent, all fell short of the 91.5 per cent target.

Newport has failed to meet its target in six of the nine last quarters.

Rebecca Thomas, Royal Mail specialist at Consumer Focus Wales, said:

‘Royal Mail’s performance on first class post in Wales for the first quarter of the year is disappointing. The company says its modernisation programme has affected performance. The programme has been running since April 2010 and we would expect any teething problems to be over by now. The price of stamps has increased significantly in recent years to fund modernisation and consumers deserve to see improvements in the service.’
