Scotland’s Digital Needs

Published: 16 September 2011

Many consumers in Scotland have taken advantage of the benefits that digital technology can bring to achieve major improvements in their experiences – both in private markets and when accessing public services. However, a significant proportion of consumers in Scotland have yet to enjoy the full benefits that the digital revolution can offer. While these consumers may come from any social, economic or demographic group, or from any region in Scotland, they are particularly likely to include those in rural and remote areas, older people, disabled people, and those on lower incomes.

This report aims to encapsulate the consumer interest in the often complex policy debate surrounding digital technology.  It summarises the key challenges for policymakers and the telecoms industry.
