Responding to British Gas’ price rise, Trisha McAuley, Deputy Director at Consumer Focus Scotland, said:
‘This price rise will leave customers in Scotland even more worried about the cost of heating their homes this winter.
‘It will see average annual energy bills rocket even further.
‘This and other expected price rises will tip even more households into fuel poverty, with over one million households in Scotland already struggling to afford their bills.
‘Wholesale gas prices are volatile and suppliers will look to pass on those commodity costs to their customers, which is why we need much more focus on the big steps that Governments and the regulator can take to insulate consumers from the affects of growing energy costs. We would also encourage consumers to do what they can to cut their bills by switching tariff, payment method and supplier.’
