Consumer Focus Scotland welcomes decision on public information notices

Published: 17 March 2010

Responding to the Scottish Government’s announcement today of its decision not to progress legislation on public information notices, Jennifer Wallace, Principal Policy Advocate, Consumer Focus Scotland, said:

“We welcome today’s announcement that legislation to end the obligation to publish public information notices in newspapers will not be progressed. The proposal would have meant that local authorities could choose web-only publication of this vital information.”

“While recognising the need for public money to be spent efficiently, we felt that this would exclude too many consumers who don’t have access to broadband or struggle to access the internet. We are happy to work with Scottish Government and local government to find other solutions for informing the public that are both accessible and cost-effective.”
