Comment on OFT Inquiry into UK Housing Market

A spokesman for the leading Scottish watchdog, Consumer Focus Scotland, welcomed the announcement by the Office of Fair Trading that it is consulting on an inquiry into the UK housing market and urged them to include Scotland in its remit.

“The buying and selling of homes is a large and important market in Scotland. It is an area where most consumers make the biggest financial transactions of their lives.

“We would urge the OFT to include an examination of Scotland’s housing market which hasn’t been put under the microscope in this way for many years.

“We believe the Scottish house buying process has a lot to commend it for its relative speed and certainty. However, all markets benefit from having a competition authority review and this market is no different.”
