“This is welcome news and will help lift consumers out of the dark by making them more aware of the energy they use. Smart meters will also bring about the end of estimated bills which have been a major source of complaints for years.
“Energy suppliers recognise that they will save money once smart meters are rolled out. This should be reflected in who picks up the bill and the Government should consider capping the amount consumers pay for smart meters.
“Visiting every home in the UK is a once in a lifetime opportunity to tie up the installation of smart meters with reducing the amount of energy leaked by homes. Government must make sure that this roll out is joined up so that energy advice and energy audits are done at the same time to make a real difference to the amount of energy we use.”
