Commenting on today’s Supreme Court decision on overdraft charges, Philip Cullum, Acting Chief Executive of Consumer Focus, said:
‘The starkest message that people will take from today’s judgment is the absence of clear, coherent consumer protection in a banking sector that is often mistrusted and perceived as complacent.
‘But it’s not the end of the story. People want a fair deal and a decent service and the issue now is how to rebuild consumer trust. That will require strong safeguards and clear enforcement by the regulator, but also huge culture change in the industry.’
