Responding to the Government’s announcement of a package of measures to support the drive to cut government interference and red tape, Mike O’Connor CBE, Chief Executive of Consumer Focus, said:
“Rather than tying businesses up in red tape, regulation should help steer them towards providing better goods and services for consumers. Regulation can help protect vulnerable and disadvantaged consumers and make markets work better for everyone. However, it must be a question of the quality of regulation as consumers inevitably pick up the tab when businesses are over burdened by red tape.
“New measures to support cuts in inappropriate regulation are welcome but their success will be measured by how the quality of regulation changes.”
