You need to contact your supplier to apply for the discount. You can find contact details on your energy bill. If your supplier is one of the ‘big six’ (British Gas, EDF, E.ON, npower, Scottish and Southern Energy, and ScottishPower) the contact details are in our Warm Home Discount briefing. energy prices have been falling since April 2011 and are at the lowest since February 2011. Yet the domestic market prices have not dropped. The market is slow to implement price drops and this is a worry.

To apply for the Warm Home Discount you need to contact your supplier directly. If your supplier is British Gas you can find more information on their website: http://www.britishgas.co.uk/warmhomediscountscheme.

If you think you may be in the ‘core’ group, ie if you are in receipt of the guaranteed element of Pension Credit, you can also call the WHD contact centre on 0845 603 9439.

As an installer of four years standing, and over 600 domestic installations, we couldn’t agree more about the need for better and more stringent regulation over misselling and the recommendation of inappropriate technologies. One good thing from the FIT changes will hopefully be the death of some of the cowboy companies.

Consumers, need to chose their technology and installer wisely (it isn’t all about solar PV). But if solar PV is the chosen path, a good return can still be achieved. Our thoughts on the new landscape can be read here http://eco-environments.blogspot.com/2011/11/feed-in-tariffs-new-landscape.html
